Kawai’s Digitals: Part 5 – The Rest

PART V: THE REST

Beyond simply being played as an instrument, digital pianos have other features that can enhance the musical experience. With built-in lesson features, they can help to instruct the beginner. With record/playback features, they can unlock creativity. Some have libraries of prerecorded music to entertain. Regardless of where you are in your musical journey, Kawai digital pianos have features designed for you.

RECORDING

digital piano recording buttons

Every Kawai digital piano comes equipped with an internal song recorder which provides the user a convenient means of capturing musical ideas, creating backing tracks, or conserving live performances. Their entry-level digitals have 1-part, 3 song recorders while their higher-end models come equipped with 2-part, 10 song recorders. Models equipped with USB to device interfaces allow the user to save their recorded music onto flash drives as MP3 or WAV files. Alternatively, you can use the line out (if the model is equipped with one) or the headphone jack to send a signal directly to a recording device.

NON-PIANO SOUNDS

various instruments

Kawai has done such an amazing job of digitally recreating the sound of acoustic pianos, that the non-piano sounds often get overlooked. From their incredibly authentic sounding electric pianos to majestic church organs through their well-curated synth and string pads, they sound as good as you’d hope they’d be.

Furthermore, the Dual playing mode allows two different sounds, such as grand piano and strings, to be layered together creating sophisticated soundscapes. Split and 4-hands modes divide the keyboard into two independent sections with separate sounds for each. The volume balance and other tonal features between instruments in any of these modes are adjustable, making the combinations of sounds seem endless.

LESSONS

Music Lesson Books

Kawai digital pianos come with a convenient lesson function which allows aspiring pianists to learn piano with classical Czerney, Burgmüller, and Beyer etudes, or a collection of songs from the popular Alfred’s course books. Some models feature additional books and music along with traditional finger exercises, scales, and warm-up drills. Books sold separately.

CONCERT MAGIC

Concert Magic is an intelligent, interactive system that allows everyone, even non-players, to experience the joy of playing piano. All you need to do is tap any key and Concert Magic will take care of playing the correct notes. You get to control the song’s rhythm and expression, which are the other two elements of playing music.

Ranging from 40 to 176 songs, Concert Magic has a wide variety of songs to choose from – children’s songs, Christmas songs, classical selections, hymns, and more. It is a great feature for beginners who can benefit from focusing on the rhythmic aspects of music without worrying about the notes. The CA-Series employ Concert Magic’s Note Navigator system, a visual guide that assists the player through each song’s rhythms.

PIANO MUSIC

Beyond the sound demos, many Kawai digitals have a song library for your listening enjoyment. This feature is particularly useful when you’d like to hear some piano music but are unable to play, like when hosting company or even just doing the dishes.
